Potential Leadership Intensive
We have one mission at The Journey: to help people find Jesus and follow him fully. We’re looking for called, passionate, driven Journeyers to help us lead the way and make that vision a reality.
As God continues to grow our community of faith, we have a commitment to equip, empower, and unleash leaders to serve. We desire to help emerging leaders steward their potential and become everything God designed them to be. Will you join us for Potential?
What is the Potential Leadership Intensive?
Potential is a nine-month, hands-on leadership intensive where you’ll:
Gain real-life leadership experience working directly with staff
Receive personal mentoring and training
Discover your larger purpose in the Kingdom of God
Develop your calling and take tangible steps towards fulfilling it
Who can apply for Potential?
Anyone interested in joining us for the leadership intensive is welcome to apply. Specifically, we’re looking for men and women with the following qualifications:
A follower of Jesus with strong character
Lights up a room (someone who is likeable and others are drawn to)
Abnormally high work ethic (an executor who makes things happen consistently)
Secure and likeable (confident, fun to be around, teachable, and unthreatened by the success of others)
Healthy relationships with existing staff and leaders (in current position and/or at The Journey)
Bleeds Journey Red (loves The Journey, who we are, what we do, and why we do it)
Possesses spiritual gift of leadership
What is the curriculum, and what are the expectations?
The Potential Leadership Intensive is a combination of group teaching and hands-on learning. Each leader will be assigned to a ministry track where they’ll have specific responsibilities to gain practical ministry experience while moving the mission and vision of The Journey forward through building teams, casting vision, and leading J-Teamers. In addition, leaders will meet once per week for large group teaching from Pastor Mark and other Journey staff leaders.
Large group teaching topics include The Journey 101 (our mission, vision, culture, and structure), self-awareness (discovering and pursuing your purpose), sustainability, emotional health, team building, vision casting, communication and conflict, along with many others. All Potential participants will receive a list of required books, reading, and videos before the semester begins.
What is a ‘ministry track’ and which ministry tracks are available?
Upon acceptance into Potential, you will choose a ministry track to focus on. Your hands-on leadership and learning experiences will be focused within the ministry track you’ve chosen. Currently, we have various ministry tracks available within our Gather, Connect, Serve, and NextGen areas.
When do you meet?
Potential is a nine-month commitment with a weekly large group meeting, combined with weekend-specific responsibilities. In addition, Potential Intensive leaders are invited to be part of staff meetings and receive one-on-one time with our leadership team to gain practical, personalized insight and leadership teachings.
Potential 2017 runs from September 2017 through May 2018.
Wednesday nights: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (requirements vary by ministry area)
Sundays: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (requirements vary by ministry area)
How much does it cost?
Our Potential Leadership Intensive requires a $600 investment. As part of our commitment to you as a leader, The Journey will fund the first $350. You’ll be required to invest the remaining $250. We ask you to make a $50 deposit upon acceptance. You may choose the following options for the remaining $200 investment:
Option 1: One-time payment ($200) before start date
Option 2: Two payments ($100) before start of each semester
Option 3: Monthly payments ($25) during nine months Potential is in session
Please note: There is no cost to apply.
Why should I invest in Potential?
Your investment in the Potential Leadership Intensive will cover the cost of all books/videos/resources associated with large group teaching, as well as registration fees for trips we take and leadership events we attend. In addition, all of our Potential leaders will have the opportunity to develop relationships with and receive coaching from our Directional Team leaders and other staff members.

If I’m interested, what are my next steps?
We encourage you to take time to think and pray through if Potential is the right fit for here. Here's what we suggest:
Talk it over with your spouse and mentors. This is an intense, nine-month commitment, so ask others for wise counsel as you make this decision.
Pray. If you sense a ministry calling on your life, ask God if this is your right next step.
